"Bucaneer Beach, Oceanside"
Pastel $300
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Mary fills her art with a deep spirituality and a love of the sea. She has lived near the sea all over the world -- Puget Sound, the Caribbean, the Pacific and the Persian Gulf. She has traveled extensively painting water scenes, such as, the Cornish Coast of England, Venice, Italy, Northern Ontario's Lake Superior and Montreal River. Having returned to San Diego North County in 1999, one of her most aesthetic influences is plein air painting with the San Dieguito Art Guild Environmental Painters, painting lagoons and coastal shores.
"Art is both a spiritual expression and a spiritual experience," Mary says, "It permits the viewer and the artist to get out of the way and discover new paths of centering. Through relationships and juxtapositions -- between colors, patterns and textures, and through light and motion -- we learn new ways of perceiving ourselves."
